This weekend , from saturday all through the night and early morning to sunday evening i was at an event called Relay for life, Me and my family take part every year. It has a special place in our hearts. For those who don’t know what ‘Relay for life’ is here’s a short summary:

Relay For Life is a 24-hour walking relay for which funds are raised in support of the fight against cancer. The events, which take place worldwide, give communities a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember lost loved ones, and fight back against the disease.

At Relay, teams of family members and friends commit to having at least one member of their team walking around the track at all times. While they are doing that, a festival of fun, entertainment and community takes place which unites everybody in the fight against cancer .

Basically there are teams and the teams have tents in which they sell anything they want to raise money for cancer society. It’s such a fun and emotional 24hrs , I can’t put into words what it’s like. The atmosphere is just amazing.

The teams can consist of family members and friends. Each team has their own unique name. It starts from 5 on saturday and ends at 5 on sunday. Team members stay up the whole 24hrs and at least one member of your team has to be walking around the track, You all take turns.

The survivors wear purple t-shirts and have their own VIP area where they get a full dinner and little gift bags. There treated like vip’s like they should be.

There’s candle bags placed all around the track (a unfalmible bag with a number and candle inside) You can buy a candle bag (before the event) And write a special note or even someone’s name that is battling cancer, Battled cancer or sadly passed from it. At 11pm the candles in the bag are all lite and there’s a ‘ceremony of light’.

Everyone – team members , the public , walk around the track during the ‘ceremony of light’ everyone is on the track. Soft music is played and its an emotional time.

After that you go back to your tents and someone from your team is back on the track. I wasn’t walking till 2 in the morning so I just chilled in the tent, laughed with family and made memories. Every year I try to have a sleep or a nap but I never can ha. The music usually continues till about 2am and then it returns at 8am

Everyone starts to get tired and moany at about 5/6 ish in the morning … we just want to sleep haha. You can bring a small tent that you would sleep in and pitch it behind the main tent.

When it reaches morning its back up and running and the public start flowing in. Sunday consists of music and entertainment. ,

I have hay fever and this year was just awful but I still tried to have a good time !

I only got a few pictures because I didn’t bring my phone with me all the time!

This event is very special to me and my family , I hope enjoyed this !

See you in my next post x

    Come say hi !
